Apple-picking season is here, and it’s time to stock up on that favorite fall fruit. Countless farms across the state are opening their orchards to the public. Here are a just a few:
• Davis Farmland, 145 Redstone Hill Road, Sterling. While here, check out the rare farm animals, take a hayride or even try the navigate your way through the Mega Maze! 978-422-6666; davisfarmland.com.
• Lookout Farm, 89 Pleasant St. South, South Natick, has 11 varieties of apples to pick. The children’s play area here includes a hay pyramid, live entertainment, face painting and caterpillar rides. 508-653-0653; lookoutfarm.com.
• Tougas Family Farm, 234 Ball St., Northboro, offers a wagon ride to bring families out to the farm’s orchards, where they can pick from more than 20 varieties of apples. Kids can also visit goats and pigs in the barnyard and play on the antique tractor on the playground. 508-393-6406; tougasfarm.com.
• Russell Orchards, 143 Argilla Road, Ipswich, is a historic farm offering more than 25 varieties of apples. You’ll also find hay rides, cider pressing and some delectable, warm cider donuts. 978-356-5366.russellorchards.com.
