Glove puppetry is one of the world’s oldest and most versatile theatrical traditions. From China’s acrobatic Monkey King to England’s Punch and Judy, all glove puppeteers must master the art of bringing characters and stories to life using only their hands.
In this fun and rigorous class, PST's Artist in Residence Brad Shur will guide participants through drills designed to improve your coordination and expressivity. Starting with basic exercises for manual dexterity and building towards complete character-based scenes, students will acquire a movement vocabulary that allows their hands to express almost any emotion or action. Read MoreSixth and seventh graders from the Ephraim Curtis Middle School have created some very unique works of art on display in the Children's Room of the Sudbury Goodnow Public Library through the month of May. There will be a reception for the community on May 30th from 5:00-7:00. The students worked in teams to create 2-dimensional, pixilated reproductions of famous works of art with Lego bricks. Once this exhibit is completed, the works will be on display at the Boston Children's Hospital. This project exposes children to contemporary art and the idea of using commonplace items in new contexts to create visual and interactive experiences. It also provides an avenue to explore iconic works of art and for students to give back to the community. "This program is supported in part by a grant from the Sudbury cultural council), a local agency which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency."

Players are between 12 and 18 years old but perform with the panache and passion of a top notch professional orchestra.

How much easier it is to pick up a pencil when a teacher, instead of saying, “draw something,” offers the prompt: “draw a peanut butter sandwich resting on the ocean floor.” At Maud Morgan Arts, an epicenter of creativity unto itself, the spring session features classes that provide more than prompts; these courses stretch the imagination across multiple mediums to send students galumphing down new avenues of artistic expression in the belief that all students can surprise themselves with their own art.
Registration is now open for spring classes at Maud Morgan Arts. Classes for all ages, preschoolers through adults. Special April vacation week workshops and weekend intensives.
