The teams practice in the spring to prepare for the June races, paddling in sleek, colorful 39-foot-Hong Kong-style dragon boats. Along with dragon boat races, the festival also presents performances from various Asian cultures, Asian food, and arts and crafts representing traditions of this ancient Chinese celebration. The event, called “Boston I Love,” will bring the community together to celebrate the spirit of the city in the wake of the attack at the Boston Marathon. Visitors from Boston and beyond will be able to enjoy special exhibitions, including the debut of three paintings lent to the MFA by New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art in honor of the people of Boston. Additionally, quilt squares from around the world offering messages of love and peace will be displayed in the installation To Boston With Love.
