Bernarda Alba

Based on Federico Garcia Lorca's 1936 play The House of Bernarda Alba, this masterwork by Michael John LaChiusa, composer of such critically acclaimed hits as The Wild Party and Marie Christine, originally debuted at Lincoln Center. Bernada Alba a tells the tales of a powerful matriarch, who imposes a strict rule on her household following her second husband's funeral: "Not a breath of outside air is going to enter this house. It's going to feel like we've bricked up the doors and windows," she proclaims. Bernarda's five daughters, however, struggle with her cold wishes. The girls' dreams and desires challenge their mother's harsh rules and the outside world begins to slowly permeate their isolated existence. It is a unique and challenging piece of theatre, that the young company could't be more excited to bring to Stoneham Theatre's stage, in the hands of its talented act 3 performers and its director, Christopher James Webb.

Jekyll & Hyde

An evocative tale of the epic battle between good and evil, Jekyll & Hyde is based on Robert Louis Stevenson's classic story about a brilliant doctor whose experiments with human personality create a murderous counterpart. Convinced the cure for his father's mental illness lies in the separation of Man's evil nature from his good, Jekyll unwittingly unleashes his own dark side, wreaking havoc in the streets of London as the savage, maniacal Edward Hyde. This gothic musical plays with the juicier aspects of Victorian melodrama, yet still features a powerful rock score.

The Handless Maiden

A father unwittingly makes a deal with the devil, but it is his innocent daughter who will have to pay the price. The Brothers Grimm are famous for their dark stories which peer into the heart, and this contemporary re-imaging by Stoneham Theatre's Producing Artistic Director Weylin Simes (Prom!; Dracula; The Old Mand and the Sea) retains all of the original's power/ Continuing the tradition of columbinus, The Rose and the Rime and Prom!, this world premiere production, directed by Nick Sulfaro (Jane Eyre, Zanna Don't), will fuse traditional theatre, ensemble-based storytelling and movement in a truly unique experience.
